Development – Life Skills support?

Development – Life Skills support is about building the practical skills you need to manage daily life more independently.
A support worker can teach, demonstrate and practice skills with you, step by step, until you feel more confident doing them on your own or with less help.

This can happen at home, in the community or in other everyday settings.

we can help you build

Every person’s goals are different, but life skills support can include things like:

  • Cooking and food preparation – planning simple meals, chopping safely, using appliances and cleaning up

  • Shopping skills – making a shopping list, comparing prices, paying for items and checking change

  • Budgeting and money management – understanding bills, basic budgeting, using bank cards and keeping track of spending

  • Household organisation – planning chores, creating routines and keeping important items and documents organised

  • Personal organisation – using calendars, reminders and checklists to manage appointments and daily tasks

  • Travel skills – learning routes, reading timetables and using public transport safely (where appropriate)

  • Social and communication skills – practising conversations, asking for help, speaking up about your needs and rights

We’ll focus on the skills that are most useful and meaningful to you.

Who Is This Service For?

Life skills support is suitable for NDIS participants who:

  • Want to become more independent in their everyday life

  • Are moving towards more independent or shared living arrangements

  • Need support to understand and manage money, time or household tasks

  • Feel anxious or unsure about doing things on their own

  • Have goals related to living more independently, working or studying

We can adapt the pace, teaching style and environment to suit your learning needs.

How our life skills support works

  1. We explore your goals
    We start by talking about what you’d like to be able to do more independently — at home, in the community, at work or at study.

  2. We design a skills plan
    Together we choose specific skills to focus on and break them down into small, achievable steps.

  3. We learn and practice together
    Your support worker demonstrates, guides and practises skills with you in real-life situations until you feel more confident.

  4. We review your progress
    We regularly check in on how you’re going, celebrate your progress and adjust your plan as your skills and goals change.

A: Our aim is to do things with you, not just for you. We might demonstrate at first, then gradually support you to take the lead.
